MBBS Program – Undergraduate (4.5 Years)

Overview

The MBBS program at Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) is a 4.5-year academic course followed by a 1-year compulsory rotating internship after the University Final Examination. The course is divided into 9 semesters of 6 months each.

Curriculum Structure

  • Pre-Clinical Sciences (Semesters 1–4):
    Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, and Community Medicine.

    • Students are also introduced to clinical knowledge through Introduction to Clinical Sciences.

  • Community Medicine (Semesters 1–7):
    Continuous teaching-learning activities integrated throughout.

  • Clinical Sciences (Semesters 5–9):
    Forensic Medicine, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology (ENT), Medicine and Allied Subjects, Surgery and Allied Subjects, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics.

  • Internship:
    Upon completing the final year, students undergo a 1-year compulsory residential rotating internship.

    • After successful completion, the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree is awarded.

    • Medium of instruction: English.


Eligibility

Applicants must appear in the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination (for both Nepali and foreign students). Admission is strictly merit-based.

Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

  1. 10+2 Science (Biology Group) or Equivalent

    • Minimum 50% separately in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology

    • At least 50% aggregate marks in total

    • OR minimum C+ grade in PCB subjects, C grade in other subjects, and GPA ≥ 2.4

  2. A-Level or Equivalent

    • Percentage equivalent to the above eligibility requirements with equivalence from NEB.

  3. Health Science Proficiency Certificate Level/Diploma Holders

    • Programs: General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Ayurveda, Radiography, Physiotherapy

    • Must hold Certificate of Equivalence to Grade 12 Science from NEB

    • At least 50% separately in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology with 50% aggregate (both in Diploma and Equivalence exam)

    • Must be registered with the relevant professional council (NHPC, Nepal Pharmacy Council, or Nepal Ayurveda Council).
