How Does It Help?
Body plethysmography measures lung volumes and airway resistance, helping doctors detect and evaluate lung diseases that are not visible in standard tests.
Detection of Lung Disorders
  • It can detect obstructive diseases like COPD and asthma, as well as restrictive lung diseases.

Detection of Lung Disorders
Detailed Lung Assessment
  • Provides precise measurement of total lung capacity and airway resistance to guide treatment.

Detailed Lung Assessment
How is it done?
The patient sits inside a sealed booth (plethysmograph) and breathes through a mouthpiece while changes in pressure measure lung volumes and airflow.
Preparation
Avoid smoking or heavy meals beforehand. Remove tight clothing and jewelry.
During Test
The patient breathes normally, and sometimes performs deep breaths or panting while the machine records pressure changes. The test usually takes 15–30 minutes.
Post-Treatment
No recovery time is needed. Results are analyzed to assess lung function and plan treatment.
