The Institutional Review Committee (IRC) at Kathmandu Medical College is an independent ethics committee responsible for reviewing and approving health research involving human participants before the research begins. Like other IRCs in Nepal, it operates according to the ethical guidelines of the Nepal Health Research Council to ensure that research is scientifically sound and ethically acceptable. 

Roles of the Institutional Review Committee (IRC)

• Reviews research proposals involving human participants before the study starts.
• Evaluates whether the scientific design is appropriate and ethically acceptable.
• Protects the rights, dignity, safety, and well-being of research participants.
• Reviews informed consent forms and ensures participants provide voluntary informed consent.
• Assesses potential risks and benefits of the proposed research.
• Maintains confidentiality and privacy of participant information.
• Monitors approved studies and reviews amendments, progress reports, and adverse events when necessary.
• Ensures researchers comply with national ethical guidelines and institutional policies.
• Recommends approval, revision, or rejection of research proposals based on ethical and scientific considerations.
