“The physiology of today is the medicine of tomorrow.” Ernest H. Starling, Physiologist (1926)

Human physiology is the science of the mechanical, physical, and biochemical function of humans, and serves as the foundation of modern medicine. As a discipline, it connects science, medicine, and health, and creates a framework for understanding how the human body adapts to stresses, physical activity, and disease. Contemporary research in human physiology explores new ways to maintain or improve the quality of life, development of new medical therapies and interventions, and charting the unanswered questions about how the human body works.

The Department of Physiology of KMC is actively involved in teaching MBBS,BDS and Nursing Students. Department of Physiology offers Doctor of Medicine (MD in Physiology). All the academic courses are carefully prepared and being executed keeping in mind the importance of basic and applied physiology in clinical settings.

Besides teaching, the Department is planning to support the patients' care services, viz. Testing of Autonomic Functions, Pulmonary Function Tests, Electrophysiological tests and Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring(IONM.  Faculties of the Department engage in various research studies.

1. Pulmonary Function testing: Spirometry

2. Autonomic function Lab: AFT and vascular function tests, Tilt table test, HRV, Valsalva test

3. Neurophysiology Lab: EEG, Evoked Potential/ Nerve Conduction/ EMG/VEP/SSEP/MEP

4. Intraoperative Neurophysiological Monitoring (IONM).
